Helen Crook, Victoria Davis & Louie Harris claim victory at LTA Padel British Tour event in Guernsey

• 3 MINUTE READ

It was a winning weekend for our British Padel players, with three stars claiming silverware at the LTA Padel British Tour event at Guernsey Padel Club.

There were British titlists across the men’s and women’s competitions with Louie Harris and Rafael Vega lifting the title in the men’s, and Helen Crook and Victoria Davies succeeding in the women’s.

The competition in Guernsey was the fourth of six LTA Grade 1 events to take place across England, Scotland, and the Channel Islands as part of the British Tour, which encompasses the top padel competitions in the UK.

In the men’s draw of 32 pairs, the final saw the second seeds Harris and Spanish partner Rafael Vega defeated the British third seeded team Sam MacNeil and Chris Salisbury in a close match that finished 7-6(5), 6-4.

After winning their second LTA Grade 1 event of 2024, Vega said “They played really well in the last set, but we stuck with them – I’m quite happy. I’m looking forward to the next tournament.”

Harris added, “For me, it’s my first time here. It’s definitely one I want to come back to again.”

Top British seeds Crook and Davies had an impressive tournament, dropping only a single set all weekend. In the final, the Brits came up against the second seeds Sophie Cousins and Angela Wood to claim the title 6-2, 6-4. Reflecting on the win the team said, We’re really pleased, we used to play tennis together in doubles 30 years ago. It was quite fun to get on the padel court together.”

Dominic Woolland, Guernsey Padel Club Tournament Organiser said, The weather was kind to us and we had some spectacular play to entertain the generous crowds that come down to support and watch padel in Guernsey.

"Eight events over three days is a lot to get through but the thing that stands out for me is the quality and enthusiasm of our juniors. The sport of Padel is going from strength to strength in Guernsey.”
