Leon Smith watches in training

Great Britain captain Leon Smith has named a mixture of experience and youth in his squad to face Uzbekistan in the Davis Cup World Group play-off at Glasgow's Emirates Arena this month.

Davis Cup stalwarts Jamie Murray, Dom Inglot, and Dan Evans will be joined by Cameron Norrie and Jay Clarke for the tie on the weekend of September 14-16.

"It’s a great opportunity to bring this tie back to Glasgow," said Smith as he looked ahead to the tie. "Emirates Arena is a venue that played a key role in our Davis Cup triumph in 2015 and holds a special place in our hearts.

"This is a chance to celebrate with our home fans and we can’t wait to put on a great performance to thank them for their support over the years.”

Unfortunately both Kyle Edmund and Andy Murray are unavailable for this tie. Kyle has been struggling with fitness since Wimbledon and Andy, after such a long time out due to injury, will continue rehab with a focus on 2019.

Great Britain and Uzbekistan are meeting for the first time in their nations’ histories. Winning the tie will contribute to GB’s standing in the 2019 event, during which there will be a home or away tie in February to determine if the team advances to the November Finals.

The Glasgow Emirates Arena is no stranger to Davis Cup action with Great Britain hosting the 2016 semi-final tie against Argentina, as well as the opening round tie against the USA in 2015 and memorable semi-final victory against Australia during which a strong home crowd cheered the team onto a Davis Cup final and eventual title. It is a fitting venue to celebrate Great Britain’s Davis Cup history.
