What do they say?

Leon Smith said: “I’m delighted to name the five players for this semi-final tie. It has been a great summer for the British players with Andy once again leading from the front and the performances from the players at the US Open gives us a lot of Leon Smithmomentum going into the tie.‎

“We are confident that we can do the job at the Emirates, although we know we are up against an Argentina team with impressive strength in depth, and of course the return to form of Juan Martin del Potro makes their team stronger again.

“This is the semi final of the Davis Cup, we are leaving no stone unturned in our preparations and I know that our team will give their best effort, and fight for every point in this tie.

“Returning to Glasgow means a lot to all of the team. The venue is full of such positive memories for us all. And the support, it has been just incredible. I can’t wait to hear that again.”

Fun Fact

  • Great Britain and Argentina have faced each other four times, with the South Americans leading the head-to-head 3-1. GB haven't beaten them since 1928, with Argentina winning the most recent tie 4-1 in 2008.

Tara McGregor-Woodhams, Head of Brand and Sponsorship at Aegon UK, added: “We wish Leon and all of the Aegon GB Davis Cup team the very best of luck against Argentina. We are so proud to support the team, especially during this remarkable period. The Emirates in Glasgow has seen some extraordinary Davis Cup tennis and we look forward to more of the same!”
