Wimbledon BritWatch: Murray and Azarenka step into quarters

Azarenka and Murray at Wimbledon

Jamie Murray edged one step closer to defending his mixed doubles title as he defeated 12th seeds Matwe Middelkoop and Johanna Larsson, teamed up with Victoria Azarenka. 

The pair claimed the first set in a tie-break and then went on to win 7-6(6), 6-3 to set up a quarter-final with 17th seeds Jean-Julien Roger and Demi Schuurs. 

In ladies' doubles, Heather Watson narrowly missed out on progressing to the semi-finals with Tatjana Maria as they fell 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 to Czech third seeds Barbora Kejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.  

It was a good day for the British juniors as Emma Raducanu, Anton Matusevich and Jack Draper reached the quarter-finals of the singles. 

Raducanu defeated Joanna Garland 7-5, 6-4, Matusevich sailed past Otto Virtanen 6-1, 6-3 and Draper dug deep to oust 11th seed Tristan Boyer 6-7(1), 6-3, 7-5. 

In doubles, Victoria Allen and Destinee Martins, James Story and Harry Wendelken, and Aidan McHugh and Timofei Skatov of Kazakhstan clinched victories to advance to the second round. 

Thursday welcomes more junior action, along with the first rounds of wheelchair tennis, and Harriet Dart, Jay Clarke, Joe Salisbury and Dom Inglot will all return to SW19 - check out the order of play here
