LTA confirms international indoor wheelchair tournament in March

• 1 MINUTE READ

The LTA is providing an opportunity for the world’s best wheelchair players to compete again next month, after confirming the Loughborough Indoor Wheelchair Tennis Tournament will take place from 23 to 27 March.

The announcement comes ahead of the start of the Australian Open wheelchair tournament on 14 February, which will feature Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Andy Lapthorne and Lucy Shuker.

The Loughborough Indoor Wheelchair Tennis Tournament will be a behind closed doors international event and is part of the governing body’s continued drive to provide opportunities for players to compete within limitations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event is an ITF 2 tournament on the International Tennis Federation’s UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, and will take place at the Loughborough Sport Tennis Centre.

It is open to international players and the LTA has worked with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport to ensure strict protocols for elite sport are followed, and that rules around exemptions for international travel for elite sport are adhered to.

The event is set to feature many of the players on the LTA’s Wheelchair Tennis World Class Programme and National Age Group Programme. Entry lists will be announced in due course.
