The Nottinghamshire 11U Boys were competing in the National Finals in Sheffield over the weekend of 9 -11 July. The boys were in a round robin group with Yorkshire, East of Scotland and South Wales. 4 singles matches and 2 doubles were to be played against each team in a fast 4 format.
The team comprised of James Beale; Jacob Cameron; Elijah Killen Smith; Joshua Yard and Kieran Yu.
First up was a very strong Yorkshire team. As it was a very big occasion and new experience, our boys’ nerves played a large part and although they battled hard they eventually lost 6-0.
With some very good performances from Jacob in the singles and Jacob and Elijah in the doubles, the final set tie-breaks were their downfall against East of Scotland eventually losing 4-2.
South of Wales were one of the events favourites having 3 of their players ranked top 10 in the country. Jacob again managed to secure an impressive singles win and Josh and Kieran an equally impressive doubles win but the team eventually went down 4-2
The final match was played against Avon for a 7/8th finish. Unfortunately, tie-break shootouts played a part again and the boys lost 4 very close singles. What was great to see was this didn’t affect the boys and they bounced back to win both doubles matches to finish the weekend on a high.
I’m sure the boys will use this as great learning experience and bounce back stronger next year. The team showed great team spirit and represented the county admirably.
