Penney's first experience of wheelchair tennis came in May 2019 when he played at the Portsmouth Tennis Centre. He instantly fell in love with the sport and enjoyed being able to train regularly, providing him with something that he looked forward to doing and ultimately being the driving force behind wanting to make it his career.
