Attendees who have passed the Basic Line Umpire course and joined The Association of British Tennis Officials (ABTO) as a trainee umpire are given ZT (Trainee Chair Umpire) and LT (Trainee Line Umpire) grades.
Chair Umpires who have passed the Umpire Accreditation course – to retain this grade, officials must remain members of ABTO, have endorsement from the ABTO Grading Sub-Committee and complete 5 chairs per calendar year.
U3 Chair Umpires who have been selected for and passed the Pro Tennis course are re-graded to U2. To retain this grade, officials must remain members of ABTO, have endorsement from the ABTO Grading Sub-Committee and complete 8 chairs per calendar year.
U2 Chair Umpires whose work rate and performance indicates they are working at the required standard for professional tennis and so re-graded at ABTO Grading meeting – to retain this grade, officials must remain members of ABTO, have endorsement from the ABTO Grading Sub-Committee and complete 15 chairs per calendar year.
Line Umpires who have been selected for and passed the Umpire Accreditation course – to retain this grade, officials must remain members of ABTO, have endorsement from the ABTO Grading Sub-Committee and complete 15 days per calendar year.
Line Umpires who have received positive assessments to gain promotion - to retain this grade, officials must remain members of ABTO, have endorsement from the ABTO Grading Sub-Committee and complete 20 days per calendar year.
Line Umpires who meet the minimum assessment requirements for promotion to their grade - to retain this grade, officials must remain members of ABTO, have endorsement from the ABTO Grading Sub-Committee and complete 25 days per calendar year.
Line Umpires who meet the minimum assessment requirements for promotion to their grade - to retain this grade, officials must remain members of ABTO, have endorsement from the ABTO Grading Sub-Committee and complete 30 days per calendar year.
