A week in the life of…Jocelyn Rae

Jocelyn Rae, one of Britain’s best young tennis talents, tells us what life is like as a junior trying to make it as a professional and also gives us an insight into a week on the tour.

What is your training schedule like?

I’m based at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) and I normally train from Monday to Saturday whenever I’m not away at a tournament. A standard day of training involves two on-court sessions and two off-court sessions and I’m always pretty tired by the time I’ve finished.

Do you play more junior or senior tournaments?

I’ve recently started playing more senior tournaments. The transition was tough at first but now that I’ve got a world ranking I feel more confident I can play at that level. I also enjoy it because I get treated differently at senior tournaments – like a professional rather than a junior.

What is life like on the circuit?

I’m away from home a lot so it can be hard at times, however I really enjoy it because I love travelling and seeing the world. I feel really lucky that I’m able to travel so much and do the thing that I love – playing tennis.
