Welcome to Talent ID!
This area provides useful information to help guide parents and players through their tennis journey.
Tennis is a very technical sport and as a result many top players will have started at a young age. The LTA have developed a Talent Identification system which allows players to be assessed and monitored from the age of seven onwards. The system offers support, advice and feedback to players entering the game and wishing to pursue it at a performance level.
Whilst there is no exact age a player should take up tennis, it is recognised that the younger a player can develop, the more chance this can gives them to succeed later on.
If a young player is showing strong signs of physical, technical and tactical development their coach will have the opportunity to nominate them for a County Talent ID Day. For many people, this will be their first contact with the LTA and its Talent Team.
The Talent Team is made up of a group of experienced coaches who are on hand to help clubs, players and parents achieve their goals in tennis.
Wherever you live, your county will have a Talent & Performance Co-ordinator (TPC). These are mini tennis specialists who are in charge of overseeing the development of players in the 6-10 age group.
This includes regular contact with the player and their coach, arranging County Talent ID days, taking Regional training squads and assisting in the acceptance and seeding of County and Regional level tournaments. To contact your local TPC visit the ‘In your Area’ section.
Overseeing the development of players age 6 -12 are Talent & Performance Managers (TPMs). These are responsible for regions of the country and are as follows:
