Aegon Team Tennis
Season underway
League season: April - June 2013
Last updated: 17/01/2013
The closing date for Aegon Team Tennis, the singles based team competition for registered places to play, is approaching with entry into the County Tier closing in 2 weeks’ time (31 January).
Aegon Team Tennis 2013 will run from April to June 2013 with match dates in place to help teams plan their court and player availability long in advance. The league period from April-June helps venues focus on singles based team competition and allows teams and players to build momentum during the season.
Team Tennis aims to provide players of all ages (8&U – Open) with regular league matches, against similar standard players in a competitive team environment. Teams compete on a County basis in leagues which are appropriate to their player standard. Stronger teams in certain age groups (12&U – Open) have an opportunity to compete outside their county in regional leagues.
In the 8&U – 18&U age groups teams are placed in divisions based on the standard of players in the team for that year. This helps to provide appropriate matches for the team players year on year. The majority of teams in Aegon Team Tennis compete locally in their county divisions with an opportunity to win their league and receive a personalised team pennant to share their success.
The Open (adult) age group is a promotion and relegation structure providing a clear and competitive pathway for teams across the country. Close to 1,000 teams currently compete in the Open age group with the majority of these teams competing locally within their county.
Some of the top players in the country represent their club teams in the National/Regional Open tier where £101,000 of prize money is available for the 2013 season.
