The AEGON 9U County Cup Qualifying Event is taking place on Saturday 21 July at 10 different venues around Britain.
The 9U County Cup Event is unique in that it is a mixed team event and is contested by a total of 44 counties from England, Scotland and Wales.
The competing counties are split into 10 round-robin groups (per county) and each team will play 3 boys singles, 3 girls singles, 1 boys doubles, 1 girls doubles and 1 mixed doubles.
There is no overall ‘County Champion’ and the winner of each group is the ‘Champion County’ for that group.
Amanda King, Team Captain for Oxfordshire said: “The Oxfordshire team are really excited about the forthcoming 9U County Cup event. The players have been working hard in their training sessions, and are ready to demonstrate their skills, effort and determination on court this weekend. For most of the team this will be their first county cup experience, I am sure they will encourage and support one another in this unique competitive experience and relish the opportunity to play as a team.’
Anthony Reynolds, Team Captain for Durham and Cleveland commented: “The Durham and Cleveland under 9 mixed county cup team are very excited at the prospect of playing the top boys and girls from across other counties. Our boys and girls this year have done exceptionally well to be selected for the team as there was a large pool of talented players to choose from. This is all of our team players first experience playing county cup tennis and they all feel the event is a fantastic opportunity to compete as a team. They have really enjoyed meeting up with each other in practice sessions and are looking forward to playing doubles.”
