This week in British tennis, Friday September 5th

Andy Murray will be vying to win his first Grand Slam title this weekend at the US Open in New York. The British No 1 has reached the semi-final with a string of fine performances and is now getting ready to meet the world No 1, Rafael Nadal, in the last four.

Earlier in the week, Jamie Murray teamed up with American Liezel Huber to finish as runners-up at Flushing Meadows. The pair narrowly lost to Leander Paes and Cara Black 6-7(6) 4-6 in Thursday’s final.

James Auckland and Belgian Dick Norman are through to the doubles semi-final at the €42.5k event in the Netherlands having beat Remko De Rijke and Peter Lucassen 6-2 6-2 in the last eight.

Chris Eaton and Frenchman Pierrick Ysern are set to face Olivier Charroin and Andis Juska in the doubles final at the $15k event in France.

Junior tennis

The National Finals for Team Tennis: NJCL are taking place this weekend at the City of Nottingham Tennis Centre. Boys’ and girls’ from across Britain will travel to the East Midlands to compete for the national team titles in five separate age groups.

On the international stage, a number of British players are competing at the ITF Grade 5 events in Spain and Hungary.
