The Secondary Schools Tennis Season is reaching its climax with Area competitions taking place in the North, West and South of the county.
In the North, district competitions qualified schools to take part in the finals held in the magnificent setting of Ampleforth College. This is a doubles competition and the twenty two courts were filled by enthusiastic players in the Under 13s and Under 15s events.
The winning pairs were:
Under 15 Boys: St John Fisher, Harrogate. Runners up: RossettUnder 13 Boys: St Olave’s, York. Runners up: St John FisherUnder 15 Girls: Rossett. Runners up: St Peter’s, YorkUnder 13 Girls: Queen Mary’s Topcliffe/Easingwold. Runnersup: Harrogate Ladies.
The winners qualify for the county finals to be held at the John Charles Centre, Leeds on September 20th 2010.
In the West, separate competitions were held for the state and independent schools. Wakefield Girls High School offered their magnificent facilities as the venue for the independents schools event on June 20th and 64 players took part in 32 doubles pairs.

A week later, 24 state school teams competed at the John Charles Centre in Leeds. Here the winners were:

Events currently being held in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster will determine the southern finalists and the full line-up for the county finals.
