This week Yorkshire Clubs are playing host to two large tennis events. The Sellers International Open is taking place at Huddersfield Lawn Tennis Club and at Ilkley Lawn Tennis Club, The JM Glendinning Group International Tennis Tournament, which forms part of the AEGON GB Pro-Series.
At Ilkley, The JM Glendinning Group International Tennis Tournament has reached the second round stage and sees thirteen British Players move into the draw from the first round including top seed Dan Evans and recent Wimbledon boys’ doubles winner Tom Farquharson. The tournament, which runs from 4th July until 10th July, has been organised by the hard work of Caroline and the Team at the club.
Yorkshire’s Kyle Brassington is also in the second round after a first round match saw him beat Swedish player Patrik Brydolf 6-4, 6-1 to set up his second round match against fellow Brit and number 4 seed David Rice.
The Sellers International, an LTA official Grand Prix event for the juniors, started on July 3rd and kicked off with the qualifying events for the juniors and the senior’s action started on the evening of the 5th July. Talking to the Huddersfield Examiner, Head Coach Becky Lee said “It’s been a very good opening to the tournament with plenty of good tennis being played. We have to with eight to ten matches being played every 75 minutes – it’s a very busy event.”
Becky and the team at Huddersfield have worked around the clock in preparing for this tournament, taking place on the clubs 10 courts all week.
