Jean Gates, the Wiltshire AEGON Year 8 & 10 Schools Organiser, has been awarded the LTA Meritorious Award.Jean was nominated by ABTO and received her award at the LTA AGM in December.Jean was an official at The Championships Wimbledon, for many years and remains an active official to this day, primarily as a referee.Jean was on the Council of the British Schools’ Tennis Association for a number of years, during which time she acted as the Treasurer. She was also their representative on the LTA Council for 26 years, retiring in 2007. During her time on the LTA Council, she served on numerous committees. Jean also represented tennis on the National Council for School Sport. From there she became very involved with the International School Sport Federation and was instrumental in getting a tennis event on their sporting calendar. with an event held at Queenswood School in 2003. Jean is a member of the International School Sports Federation’s Executive Committee and has acted as Head of Delegation at a number of their events. She was also Chair of the Hertfordshire Schools’ Tennis Association.Jean currently oversees the AEGON Year 8 & 10 Competition for Wiltshire and all her efforts are greatly appreciated by all of the County.Very well done to Jean for her award.
