Wiltshire LTA honoured Clubs and Players at their Annual Awards Ceremony that took place during the AGM that was held at Marlborough Golf Club on Wednesday 2nd December.
Ramsbury Tennis Club was awarded ‘Club of the Year’ and one of their young players, Mikey Puttick was awarded ‘Junior Player of the Year’. Mikey is also a member of Aldbourne Tennis Club and they have supported his tennis programme over the past 9 years too. Mikey is currently the County Champion at 16 & under, regularly attends County training and has represented the County at each junior age group. Mikey is the reigning Road to Wimbledon winner and is a hard worker and credit to the County.
‘Volunteer of the Year’ went to Jane Bull from Devizes Tennis Club. Jane has been Secretary of the Club for 8 years and Chairlady for the past 4 years before standing down at the latest AGM. Jane was instrumental in the club gaining LTA Tennis Clubmark and has steered them through a period of change. Jane has been an integral part of the clubs “Sports Committee” and involved in key meetings, business and development plans putting in many hours on behalf of the club.
Catherine Graham, from Ramsbury TC was a clear winner of the ‘Player of the Year’. Catherine has had a tremendous year achieving a Gold medal at the recent Deaflympics in Taiwan. She is the British Ladies deaf single champion and is currently ranked 4 in world deaf tennis rankings. In recognition of her achievements Catherine will be attending the Sports Personality of the Year awards in London. The county also paid tribute to Lewis Fletcher (Ramsbury TC) and Dan Tunstall (Devizes TC) for being selected to represent GB at the Deaflympics in Taiwan.
‘The Outstanding Contribution to Wiltshire Tennis’ award went to Carolyn Barry of Riverside Tennis Club. Carolyn is the clubs tennis coordinator and she has worked hard to transform the junior coaching programme over the past 6 years. Riverside is top of the table in terms of the number of competitors at the club and standards and numbers continue to improve and increase. Carolyn is a highly respected and liked member of the coaching fraternity in the County.
In addition, Lauren Cook and Robert Guthrie from Pewsey TC were awarded trophies for winning the inaugural Wiltshire Champion of Champions event. This event sees all club winners competing for the ‘County Champion of champions’ Trophy.
