South Wales players performed strongly at the National Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Gloucester.
In the main draw division, two world-ranked players reached their respective consolation finals.
Phillip Cochrane, of Cwmbran narrowly missed out to the experienced Shaun Regan, of Somerset and Debbie Brazier of Newport could not overcome a strong performance from Louise Hunt. Making their debut in the men’s second draw, Martin French of Cardiff , Steve Metcalf of Bristol, who trains in Cardiff, and Shaun Swetman of Pontypridd, acquitted themselves very well and gained invaluable experience for the future, at this higher division.
The B division was won by Lyn Thomas of Swansea, with an excellent performance, and Tony Tibbs of Cwmbran reached the consolation final taking his opponent to three sets before missing out. In her first tournament Sonia Sanghani from Abercynon won the consolationfinal of the novice division, with an excellent performance, and Laura Swetman of Pontypridd also put in a fine effort to win the consolation juniors final.
