Tennis Wales is delighted to notify you that at 7pm on Saturday 18th July 2009, it will be staging its annual Awards Evening at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea. The evening promises to be another memorable celebration of the many current achievements in Welsh tennis. The event will consist of a two course hot buffet and the presentation of the Awards.
"Its a chance for thousands of people involved in Tennis in Wales to join in a real celebration of the talent and dedication which exists in our sport. I am very pleased to say that we have again received a very encouraging response from every corner of Wales". Said Cheif Executive of Tennis Wales, Peter Hybart.
This year three finalists have been selected in each Award category with the winner of each Award being announced on the night. The finalists are:
Volunteer of the YearKay Griffiths (Cardiff Stars); Anthea Thomas (S Wales County Cup); Ann Powell (S Wales League).
Leader/Assistant Coach of the YearJosh Ford (Newport Centre); Alex Harvey (Newport Centre); Dimitri Lekkas (Newport Centre); Josh Ali (Newport Centre); Sean Jones (Abergavenny).
Coach of the YearKatherine Maddock-Lyon (David Lloyd Cardiff); Dan Sanders (Wrexham Centre); Vicki Broadbent (Mold Tennis Club).
Club/Centre of the YearCrickhowell Tennis Club; Wrexham Tennis Centre; David Lloyd Cardiff.
Team of the YearN Wales Ladies County Cup team; S Wales Men’s Winter County Cup team; Wales 14U Four Nations team.
Player of the YearPhil Cochrane (Newport Centre); Safi Azeez (Esporta Cardiff); Evan Hoyt (David Lloyd Academy, Reeds School, Surrey).
Tennis Wales will also be formally announcing its ‘Outstanding Contribution to tennis in Wales’ Award.
“This will be the third year for the awards, and again they offer a great opportunity to recognise and reward the real ‘stars’ of the sport – not just players, but officials, volunteers, coaches and clubs and centres too,” said Tennis Wales Chief Executive Peter Hybart.
We are delighted to offer you tickets for the evening at £25 per head. It is hoped that many Clubs/Centres will purchase a table of ten, and thereby join us together, in recognising the many people contributing to Welsh tennis. Please complete the attached pro forma and return it to the Tennis Wales office. Tickets will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis with demand expected to be high.
