The South Wales boys under-12 tennis team has reached the finals of the County Cup.
The boys won their group competition in Shrewsbury to qualify for the eight-team finals weekend in Bolton on July 11 and 12.
The team consisted of Matthew Kamal from Esporta, Cardiff, Nicholas Johnson and Matthew Lloyd, of Swansea LTC, Matthew Storey, who trains at UWIC, and Esporta, Gloucester-based Sean Edwards.
They won all four matches – beating North Wales 4-0, Staffordshire 4-0, Shropshire 4-0, and Hereford and Worcester 3-1.
“It was a tremendous performance,” said captain David Maddock-Lyon. “The boys played superbly to lose just one rubber over the whole weekend.
“The Shropshire score flatters us, though – we were behind in all bar one of the matches and came back to win.”
Maddock-Lyon, a coach based at David Lloyd, Cardiff, added: “The final will be a tough challenge, but I think the boys will perform well.”
