Tennis Sussex hosted its second County Awards on Saturday 19th November at Wickwoods Country Club. The Awards which were set up to reward and recognise all the great tennis achievements in the County throughout 2011 saw over 150 players, coaches, volunteers and clubs representatives come together to join the celebrations.
Some highlights from the Awards saw Luke Digweed from Cross in Hand LTC pick up Coach of The Year, Crowborough Tennis and Squash Club take away Club of the Year and their long standing member, Cory Roberts, won Club Volunteer of the Year. On the players side there were awards for Lauren Jones, a local national wheelchair champion, the Sussex Ladies 35’s Team as well as junior players Abbi Melrose, Sonay Kartal, Daniel Little and Julian Cash. ‘We decided to host the Tennis Sussex Awards as we wanted a stage to recognise and reward all the great things that have happened in tennis within Sussex over the past 12 months and this gives us a fantastic opportunity to bring both junior and senior players, club representatives, coaches and volunteers togethe.’ said Liz Squires, Tennis Development Manager. ‘Thank you to Wickwoods Country Club for hosting us for the second year and making it possible. Our congratulations go to all those who were nominated and who won awards on the afternoon and a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported the day.’
