Ben, 14, from Sussex, defeated his opponent from Hampshire and IOW Seb Butler in straight sets 6-4 7-5. He was pleased with his performance, “My volleys were really good and my backhand was working well so it worked from there.”
To win the 28 man tournament is another indicator that his tough training regime is paying off. “I’m training at Bishop Abbey on the Win tennis scheme. It’s really good there but it is also really hard work as you have to get up early and everything but it’s worth it in the end. It’s great tennis there,” said Ben.
The final was played in overcast conditions that both players were finding tough with the majority of the final set played in spitting rain. “You would slip on the court sometimes and there was a lot of wind so it was tricky,” added Ben.
Ben was part of the Sussex team that won the County cup earlier in the year and is now ranked fourth in the County at under 14 and in the top 50 in the Country at that age level.
Other winners from Sussex included Anna Woosley, in the women under 18s, who defeated Frankie Faulkes 6-4 6-1.
