Director of Tennis
An exciting opportunity has arisen at the prestigious Shrewsbury Club (formally known as the Welti Club). The club is situated in Shrewsbury Shropshire, and is considered one of the elite tennis clubs within the region.
The Club was acquired from the administrators by Mosaic Spa and Health Clubs Ltd. in December 2011. Mosaic has operated health clubs and day spas throughout the UK for the last 25 years on a contract management basis. Mosaic currently operate 28 clubs throughout the UK and have significant investment backing from Downing Corporate Finance, a London based venture capital trust fund which has an investment portfolio of over 100 companies and an annual investment fund in excess of £70m.
Mosaic plan a significant refurbishment plan for the Shrewsbury Club which, aside from the tennis facilities, offers extensive health and fitness facilities including a gym, two exercise studios, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and a large food and beverage area with meeting rooms. There is also an onsite nursery and childrens play room.
The Shrewsbury Club has six indoor courts, four clay courts, three Astroturf courts and one tarmacadem and a kid’s zone. The club boasts a solid junior Programme and is an LTA satellite club with Children on the LTA Matrix, AEGON Future stars programme and Nationally/Regionally talent identified children.
Mosaic recognise that they need a Director of Tennis to provide the leadership to drive forward the tennis operation. The Director of Tennis will need to be commercially driven with an ability to create, implement and oversee a business plan that will deliver a profitable tennis department.
The Director of Tennis will be expected to deliver a high quality tennis experience for the members through the effective leadership of a team. The role is focused on driving coaching revenue, managing both in-house and freelance coaches and maximizing member’s involvement in the tennis programmes. As Director of Tennis, the successful candidate will take an active role in the overall running of the Tennis programme from grass roots level to performance players, adults and competition. You’ll need to be creative in providing a calendar of events for the members as well as being able to manage leagues, competitions and the potential to build outreach programmes.
Role Purpose
Reporting to the Club Manager, you will possess good leadership skills with the ability to identify and further develop tennis opportunities for the club. Your key responsibility will be to drive the profitability of the tennis department through both membership and coaching revenue sources.
Responsibility for leading a team of coaches to establish, manage and promote an on court tennis programme in line with LTA Club mark requirements which will lead to increased membership for the Club, higher court usage, members playing more and improving their game at all levels along the player pathway.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of LTA Senior Performance Coach Qualification and must be looking to take there Master Club/Master Performance Award. As the Shrewsbury Club is an LTA satellite centre you will need to have knowledge of the performance winning pathway and have had experience of working with players at Regional and National Level
The role is a retained role for £25,000 and the potential to earn on court as well as through bonus schemes. The expected earnings in this position for a successful candidate who delivers on target is approximately £40,000 per annum.
