Keith Meisner and Mhairi Brown have emerged successful in the 2009 / 10 Scottish Open Grand Prix Singles Circuit after qualifying performances were recorded at 10 events throughout the season, all of which contributed points towards the overall leaderboard.
Elgin’s Meisner, the 2008 / 09 winner, enjoyed another hugely successful season which included titles at the Championships of the Highlands in Pitlochry, the East of Scotland Open in Edinburgh, the West Highland Open in Oban and the North-East Open in Aberdeen.
He finished with 54 points ahead of 2nd placed Alan MacDonald (Edinburgh) who had 28 points. Tim Weir (St Andrews) took 3rd place with 24 points in front of Thorn Park’s Jordan Gray in 4th place with 20 points.
The women’s category was much more closely fought, with Dunfermline’s Mhairi Brown taking the title over Shona Graham (Kinnoull) as a result of a higher points average per tournament, after both players finished on 24 points.
Edinburgh based coach Brown, who has recently been selected as part of the Scotland squad for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, had taken titles at the Stirling University Autumn Qualifier and the Scottish Indoor Open Championships, with Graham taking the ladies singles title at the Championships of the Highlands.
There was a further tie on 20 points for 3rd place between Claire Birnie (Cults) and Sophie O’Neill (Kilmarnock / Prestwick), with Birnie coming out on top on the deciding head-to-head matches.
Both Meisner and Brown pick up £500 prize money for their efforts, with MacDonald and Graham taking £300. Weir and Birnie get £200 for 3rd place with 4th placed Gray and O’Neil getting a cheque for £100.
