Mum to Andy and Jamie Murray, Judy, starts her regular blog from the US Open in New York.
"Just popped back to my room for sunblock. Its brutal out there! Heading over to the site in about half an hour for a spot of BritWatch! Anne Keothavong is 2nd on court 14 and Ross Hutchins has a dubs on 16 same time. How convenient.
Katie O'Brien's also floating about hoping that a few players in the womens draw get sunstroke (or something equally nasty) and pull out. She's 3rd on the Lucky Loser list. I suggested she hired a sniper but she didn't think that was a particularly helpful suggestion.
Good to see Bally getting a convincing win yesterday against Petra Martic, the young Croatian who beat her a Wimbledon. Bally played confidently, consistently and with determination while her teenage opponent seemed more interested in how she looked.
4pm - on bus on way back to Manhattan. Takes anything from 20-60 ins depending on traffic and time of day. Bus was full and lots of people got left behind inc Brush and Paulo Hutch. (Yes, that's ross n paul hutchins - don't know where the nicknames came from). Ross lost with Scott Lipsky against 5 seeds Lukas Kubot (best eyes on tour) and Olli Marach. Anne lost too. Went 6-2 up pretty convincingly tho there were signs at the end of that first set that Yan Chan Wan (or something like that) was starting to change her game and cause some problems. Went down in three. On the plus side, Anne looked fab in maroon/pink adidas dress.
Finally Andy will get to play tomorrow at 1pm on Arthur Ashe stadium against Slovak Lukas Lacko who he has known since they were about 12. Same age. Same junior tourneys. Hope its not so hot tomorrow. Its killing me. Can't imagine how it is for the players. Djoko is currently toiling against Troicki out on Ashe. He's 2-1 down on sets against a fellow Serb but will Troicki believe he can win this when it comes to the crunch?
Went for a hot dog at about 2pm. Joined the queue at some wee cart in the food court. Totally awesome. Onions and ketchup. The best. Then headed to the Mojito bar with a couple of friends. To cool off, you understand. Very important to stay hydrated.
Met a few of Andys fans on site today. They were hanging over the railing of the stand on court 4, trying to see him hit on the practice courts. One was a teenage South American girl who was crying with excitement because she was so close to Andy. Steady on! Another was a granny from Lancashire called Maureen who tried to take a pic of andy and her by herself, miscued and only got her thumb. She was gone about that.
Off Downtown to Mercer Street in Soho to visit the trendy shops now. Went yesterday as well before we went out for Japanese meal at Nipon restaurant where the owner is huge tennis fan. He got ridiculously excited when we went in. Gave us a private room (cubicle, really) and had to take our shoes off. The Japs like a bit of hygiene. Andy ate 24 pieces of sushi. Loading up the carbs!!
Our hotel is the Radisson on Lexington and is full of players. Nick Bolletieri is based there during the Open and he does a daily newsletter that you can pick up in the lobby. Its a great read. He does "Nicks Picks" - his matches of the day!
Right that's enough chat for today. Those shops are waiting and Djokos still hanging in there!"
