Marie Curie Cancer Care is calling on all tennis lovers to take part in ‘Anyone for Tennis 2009’ and help raise vital funds for the charity. The money raised will provide free nursing care to terminally ill people at the end of their lives.
No matter what your age or ability, anyone can take part in ‘Anyone for Tennis 2009’. All you need to do is organise a sponsored doubles match between May and September 2009. You can decide what sort of event you want to organise – from a social game of doubles with friends to a mini Wimbledon tournament at your local club. You could make it a mixed doubles challenge; fathers and daughters; mothers and sons; fancy dress – the choice is yours.
Tennis champions Andy and Jamie Murray are encouraging everyone from absolute beginners to big hitters to get involved. They said: “'Anyone for Tennis' gives players the chance to improve their game, as well as helping Marie Curie Nurses provide wonderful care to terminally ill people and support for their families. Every match you play will help patients spend their final days surrounded by the people they love the most."
Marie Curie Cancer Care is hoping to raise £60,000 from ‘Anyone for Tennis’, which will help Marie Curie Nurses provide a fantastic 3,000 hours of home nursing care.
To register your doubles tournament, please call 08700 340 040 (local rate), email tennis@mariecurie.org.uk or visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/tennis where you can also download a free fundraising pack full of ideas, sponsorship forms, and everything else you will need to make your match a smash hit.
