The culmination of the AEGON Pro-Series, Edinburgh may have been a wet and windy affair, but it didn't stop the finals from being a mouth-watering display of tennis.
In the men's event, it was an all Spanish clash as number one seed Alcaide met Vivance-Guzman. Because of rain, play moved indoors but the change of surface didn't hamper the standard of play. Alcaide, who is currently ranked 301 in the world, eventually claimed the match 6-1, 6-7(5), 7-6(5).
In the women's event, British number 8 and number 1 seed, Naomi Broady narrowly lost to unseeded Timea Babos (HUN) in a match that lasted over 5 hours due to rain delays. The match was eventually completed on clay with Babos winning 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-6(8).
Scottish interest included Morven McCulloch (15) who played her first professional tournament after accepting a wildcard into qualifying. McCulloch progressed through to the main draw after winning both her qualifying matches, only to lose to Lucy Brown 6-3, 6-0 in the first round.
Katie Gater, who is currently on a scholarship at the University of Stirling was granted a wildcard into the main draw and won her first match beating Linhova (CZE) 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to set up a meeting with British number 4 seed Elizabeth Thomas. Thomas, who is ranked 636 in the world, proved too strong for Gater and won the match 7-5, 6-3.
