Andy Murray was today confirmed as the World Number 3, behind Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, to become the highest ranked British player ever since the start of the open era more than forty years ago.
The Scot has overtaken Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and congratulating him on his achievement, Tennis Scotland Chief Executive David Marshall said, “We’ve already probably become somewhat blasé regarding what Andy has managed at such a young age but to reach number three in the world is a huge milestone in his career and one for which he deserves every congratulation. He has started the year in fantastic form and with three Grand Slams on the horizon, who is to say that things won’t get ever better!
“Andy has increased the profile of tennis in Scotland in recent times and has already proved to be the catalyst to substantial youngsters taking up the game which can only be good for the sport.”
