Edinburgh’s Emma Devine will compete for both the Girls’ 16 and 18 & Under titles at tomorrow’s Scottish Junior Open Championships (incorporating the Nike Junior Tour) at Craiglockhart.
Her opponent on both occasions will be 12th seed Ella Taylor from Hampshire, who beat the number 3 seed, Dena Daly on her way to the final. Devine, seeded 1 in the 16’s, and has only lost 12 games in four matches in that age group.
Meanwhile, fellow Scot, Jonny O’Mara will join Emma on Finals Day as he goes for the Boy’s Singles 18 & Under title. O’Mara defeated number 2 seed Jonathan Binding from Durham in the early rounds.
The tournament also held the first ever 9 & Under event at this level yesterday at Colinton LTC with two Edinburgh players Jacob Fearnley and Robbie Croll reaching the final, with Fearnley coming out on top.
On a day when interest in Scottish tennis will be at its peak with Andy Murray in the Wimbledon semi-finals, Craiglockhart also welcomes players from around the world as Saturday sees the start of the week long AEGON Scottish Junior International. This ITF (18 & Under) and Tennis Europe (14 & Under) tournament provides the opportunity for future Scottish stars and their counterparts from south of the border to compete against players from across the globe to gain valuable junior world ranking points.
