At the 16th Internacional Junior de Leiria currently taking place in Portugal, Edinburgh's Emma Devine has progressed to the second round after a straight sets victory over Anna Montserrat Sanchez.
The Scottish star has risen to 349 in the ITF 18 & under rankings following her victory in Newcastle last month and had earned the top seeding in Portugal as a result. Devine was comfortable throughout the match taking the tie with a 6-2 6-1 victory over her Spanish opponent.
Meanwhile there was disappointment for Aberdeen's Joanna Henderson [3] and Morven McCulloch (St Andrews) who both bowed to Portuguse opposition in the first round of the girls singles.
All three Scottish players are involved in the doubles event. Devine and McCulloch are the second seeds with a bye through to the quarter-finals, whilst Henderson teams up with local player Sofia Baptista for a first round match against Atucha Gomez (Spain) and Luz (Portugal).
