Coaches across Lancashire deliver tennis coaching in primary and secondary schools throughout the year. This coaching takes place before, during and after school times. Having a tennis coach teaching the sport to school children has many benefits for the school, the club/centre and the coach. Thousands of children are introduced to tennis each year in school and are then encouraged to carry on playing at their local club or centre. This helps tennis venues grow their membership and coaching programmes, whilst also adding to the school's curriculum.
Children are given the opportunity to compete in tennis competitions in school. There are currently two competitions that are organised locally – the Primary Schools Year 3/4 Competition and the Secondary Schools Year 7/8 Competition, which all schools can enter teams into. These events are organised locally each year through the Schools Sports Partnerships and the Competition Manager, who is based in each local authority responsible for schools sports competitions, including tennis.
