Kent Schools Annual Winter Doubles Tournament – Report

On 5th March 130 secondary school pupils from all over Kent attended the Annual Winter Doubles Tournament at Bromley Tennis Centre in Orpington. The tournament was divided into Junior (Yrs 7-9) and Senior (Yrs 10-13) sections. The girls’ tournament took place in the morning and a similar tournament for the boys in the afternoon. The players in each section were divided into 3 groups and the winner of each group then played a short match against the other top 2 pairs to decide the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

As ever, considerable assistance was given by the teachers in charge of each school. The organisers are always very grateful for this assistance, and the court time released by Bromley Tennis Centre, as without this support, such an event would not be possible.
The results for the girls and boys competition were as follows :

Junior Girls Winner – Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School (1st pair)
Runners Up – Newstead Woods School
3rd Place – Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School (2nd pair)

Senior Girls Winner – Sevenoaks
Runners Up – Langley Girls School
3rd Place – Benenden

Junior Boys Winner – Sevenoaks
Runners Up – Dartford Grammar
3rd Place – Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School

Senior Boys Winner – Langley Boys School
Runners Up – Sevenoaks
3rd Place –  Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School

The main annual Championships for Year 7-10 pupils will be held on Friday June 11th this year in the Bromley/Orpington area.
