The finals of the 2011 Kent Inter Schools Tennis Competition were held on Friday 1 July at the Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club. This was the second year that the finals were held at the club, which has again proved to be an excellent venue for the schools’ finals.
The boys and girls finals were once again of a very high standard and are a real showcase for Kent Schools Tennis. In the girls’ competitions, Sevenoaks School reached the finals of Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitions, winning the Junior and Senior competitions and only losing a very close final to Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar in the Intermediate competition. The other girls’ finalists were Tonbridge Grammar in the Junior Girls and Benenden in the Senior Girls.

In the boys’ competition Eltham College reached the finals of the Junior and Intermediate Boys competitions, winning the Intermediate against Norton Knatchbull but losing to Sevenoaks in the Junior Boys competition. The Senior Boys final was very closely contested, with five of the six matches having to be decided by the 10 point championship tie-breaker. After winning the Senior Boys competition for the last two years, Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys was beaten by King’s Canterbury.
In this year’s competition there were 77 entries from 26 schools, which involved 308 students playing competitive tennis culminating with the finals at the Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club on Friday 1 July 2011.
My thanks to Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club for the use of their courts, to the Kent LTA for providing the tennis balls and trophies for the finals, to the school teachers who have arranged numerous fixtures and to the 308 students who have participated in this annual competition.
