It was a fantastic day of tennis, with the standard extremely high thanks to the coaches (Chris, Michael and Nick) at Sydenham LTC going into schools to offer FREE taster sessions beforehand. These taster sessions were funded by LSSP and HASSP. There were 17 schools taking part on the day, with 8 pupils from each school. Each school was put in a box league where they played each other for 7 minutes in a tie break format. 3 points were awarded for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for a loss, so that each school and individual player were scoring points throughout the day. The school with the most points from each box league and the highest placed runner up went through to the semi finals where 7 minute matches were played once more. The winners then went through to the final and again played for 7 minutes. Results as follows: Semi Final 1 = St. William of York vs Kelvin Grove;Semi Final 2 = John Stainer vs Tidemill. Final = Tidemill vs St. William of York with Tidemill winning on points difference after 2 wins each. The standard thoughout the day was very close and extremely high. It is hoped the link made with the local club will continue throughout the summer and into the next academic year. Thank you to all the organisers from LSSP and HASSP for umpiring and running the day, as well as the few teachers who helped umpire. Thanks also to the coaches at Sydenham LTC and Siobhan Butler from Kent LTA who came along to show her support. Finally a massive thank you and well done to all the pupils who took part on a very successful day.
