Albany - Easter Mini Tennis TourOn a windy, cold but dry Good Friday a team of young tennis players age 6 - 9rs from Albany Tennis Lawn Club travelled to the Wirral Junior Open in Prenton accompanied by their parents and Club Coach Colin Hanbidge. The squad, all members of the Albany squad sponsored by Bradford & Bingley International, normally train and compete on the club’s indoor court, so they found the windy outdoor conditions a new challenge. However they coped well with some pleasing results. The Red Ball event was particularly high standard but Charles Kinrade, Hugo Cruz O Dwyer, Zac Walker and Ameline Batty all held their own winning some of their matches. Ameline was runner up in the Girls 8yrs and under final only losing 8/10. Well done Ameline! In the Orange Ball competition Sidney Batty, Oscar Cruz O Dwyer, and Max Walker also won some of their matches . Technically they matched the opposition only falling short on match play experience. This will only come with more UK competition.Club Coach Colin Hanbidge was extremely pleased with the squad and stressed how valuable it was to play away at different venues, on a variety of surfaces and against a much broader spectrum of players. The young players were treated to supper at the club house on their return to celebrate their successes. The squad would like to say thank you to Colin, their parents and Bradford and Bingley International for giving them the opportunity to train and play away.
