Tony Ravenscroft, 10U‘s Captain, reports on a great day of competition at the12 Counties Tournament at Corby on Sunday.
The work ethic and team spirit of all the H&W players was excellent.
Congratulations to the boys who had a very successful day defeating both Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire 3-1 in matches. The final tie against Cheshire went to the wire, we needed a draw to finish top of the boys’ league. Alex Maggs was unbeaten on the day and gained the first win, Joseph Morris and Morgan French had close matches but didn’t prevail this time. It was up to Josh Wares to seal the win, he showed great composure and with excellent support from the team he won 4-1, 5-4(3).
Imogen and Lucie played really well against the number one’s and two’s from the other counties. They battled some close matches against some experienced players. Although they didn’t manage to win a match they showed great improvement throughout the day and enjoyed the experience of competing in the county team.
It’s a shame we didn’t have a full girls team, we would have had a very good chance of finishing 1st overall.
It was great to see all the players and parents showing their support throughout the day with a Davis Cup tie atmosphere at times.
