The largest junior tennis tournament on the South coast took place last week with over 300 players meeting at the West Hants Club in Bournemouth to contest the international standard Bournemouth Open.
The event, which has been running for over 80 years, featured players from across the United Kingdom, and in certain events, players travelling from overseas.
This year’s event was dominated by successes for numerous Hampshire players.
Up-and-coming Ryan Hutchinson won the 9&U boys’ singles whilst Esther Adeshina won the 9&U girls’ event on the same day.
British number one Gabbi Taylor, from Southampton, dominated the 12&U girls’ event, wining the event without dropping a set. There was further success as Ella Taylor, from the New Forest, captured the 16&U girls’ title, also without the loss of a set.
For the older boys there was further success as Nick Sayer, currently ranked within the top ten in the AEGON British rankings won the 18&U boys’ event before taking on his older brother Martin in the men’s final.
The event has been an ideal warm-up for the AEGON Junior Nationals taking place next week where Hampshire players will once again be looking to shine.
