Gloucestershire LTA’s Honorary Secretary, David Rockett and Tennis Development Manager, Dan Cosgrove were invited to the official ‘turning the new flood lights on’ ceremony at Beckford Tennis Club last Tuesday.
Despite wet and windy conditions, there was a good turnout from the membership who were treated to an exhibition doubles match under the new lights involving 4 county champions; Simon Filiatrault - mens singles and doubles County Champion, Nigel Stanton – mens doubles County Champion and brothers Matt Morrow and Chris Morrow, under 16’s and under 14’s County Champion respectively.Peter Udale, Chairman of Beckford Tennis Club said “We are very grateful to the LTA for their financial support and project advice. The project was complicated by the need to upgrade our power supply to 3-phase. The LTA provided support and encouragement throughout the project. Our new floodlights will make a big difference to a wide range of members. During the winter months we will now be able to run simultaneous coaching sessions, social evenings, matches and general member play. It is making a special difference to our juniors who previously struggled to get as much floodlight time as they wanted. We are already making good use of them.”
