Suzzi Garnett recently encouraged some young people from a local secondary school to get involved in tennis.
The free session took place on March 17 2010 at Bitts Park in Carlisle, whilst the venue was awarded Beacon status from the Tennis Foundation.
Approximately twelve young people were led by Suzzi, who is a Development Coach in the Carlisle area. They were taught rallying skills and used modified equipment to give them a better learning opportunity. For example, the green tennis balls allowed them to have longer rallies and meant they enjoyed playing more.
This summer Bitts Park, along with other local clubs (Chatsworth and Eden Lawn), will be encouraging more young people aged between 11 to 16 to try tennis through Sport England's 'Sport Unlimited' programme.
If you are interested in getting involved with 'Sport Unlimited' please visit Cumbria LTA's website where you will be able to find the above club contact details. This is in the 'Where to play' section.
