Widnes Tennis Academy finished in second place in the Halton Sports Awards in recognition of their progress in the past twelve months.

During 2009 the venue, which is the new home of Lane Tennis Club, have grown their tennis programme whilst adult membership has increased by a third.

The Club, which is based between Sts Peter and Paul Roman Catholic High School and Widnes Golf Club, have also run a large schools programme and are on the verge of achieving Tennis Clubmark status.

All this hard work was recognised by Halton Sports Partnership, who commended the players, coaches and officials for everything they have achieved.
