The Cheshire Men’s Team recently played in Group 1 of the AEGON Winter County Cup and finished in second place.
Having gained promotion to the top flight last year, the eight-man squad of Mark Hilton, Seb Jackson, Simon Dickson, Jonny Kinsella, Scott Dickson, Jordan McCulloch, Callum Lloyd, and Stephen Crawshaw produced some outstanding performances over the weekend.
The team defeated Surrey (5-4), South Wales (8-1), and only just lost out to eventual champions Hertfordshire in a hard fought match in which the final score, 6-3, did not do justice to how close the match was.
“Whilst not wishing to highlight individual players as it was very much a team effort, Jordan McCulloch saved a match point in his singles match against Surrey, before going onto win” said team manager, John Hilton.
“Jordan and partner Seb Jackson they played against the top Surrey doubles pair and achieved a truly memorable victory, when the match score stood at 4 rubbers each, winning the final set tie break shoot out 10-8.
“Cheshire men can justifiably consider themselves the second best County Team in the UK, and they have the runners up medals to show for it.”
