James Ward and Elena Baltacha won in their opening qualifying rounds at the US Open 2013 in New York.
Ward defeated France's Jonathan Eysseric to reach the second round of qualifying at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.
Ward, the British No.2, came through with a 6-3, 6-1 over Eysseric to set up a second round meeting with Matthias Bachinger of Germany.
Ward is two more victories away from a place in the main draw at the US Open.
Also on Tuesday, former British No.1 Elena Baltacha made her US Open return against 23rd seed Melanie Oudin, a home favourite and US Open quarter-finalist in 2009.
The Briton, who turned 30 last week and has never been past round two in New York, came through with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory, and will now face Olga Savchuk (UKR) in round two.
Johanna Konta, the eighth seed, was also in action on Tuesday up against Australian Olivia Rogowska but was beaten 7-5, 6-4.
On Wednesday, Dan Evans, who is making his second appearance at Flushing Meadows, will play Canadian Peter Polansky, Tara Moore will meet Columbia’s Catalina Castano and Samantha Murray makes her US Open debut against Australian Arina Rodionova.
