A summary of the best of the day's play on Monday 12th September, the fifteenth day of the 2011 US Open in New York.
Novak Djokovic produced a magnificent display to defeat defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1 to win the 2011 US Open in one of the greatest finals ever seen at Flushing Meadows.
For four hours and ten minutes the world's two best players thrilled the New York crowd with a dazzling series of shots and some electrifying rallies.
The Serbian world No.1 came from a break down to take both of the opening two sets and appeared to be on the verge of a straight sets triumph when he served for the match at 6-5 in the third. However Nadal struck back and dominated the subsequent tie-break to force a fourth set.
The Spaniard had the momentum but the top seed responded by bursting into a 3-0 lead. Djokovic broke Nadal to love to lead 5-1 and struck a forehand winner on his first championship point to end an incredible match and a superb tournament.
