On the men’s side of the draw there was a shock defeat for No.1 seed Richard Gasquet, who was defeated in a tight three set match by Marinko Matosevic, eventually falling 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(3). 

Roddick was handed an easier route to the second round when Sam Querrey pulled out of the tournament at 5-2 up due to a back injury.

Speaking of the match Roddick said, “I didn’t know he was dealing with something out there. Regardless of what he had going on, I hit the ball really well.” 

Centre Court tomorrow will commence with Watson v Safarova, followed by the highest remaining seed and defending champion Marion Bartoli v Aleksandra Wozniak. This will then be followed by two men’s matches, fourth seed Bernard Tomic v Fabio Fognini and finally Jeremy Chardy v Andy Roddick.
