Today, some of Britain’s brightest young tennis players will be shining here at Devonshire Park, as they take on their American counterparts in a special challenge match.
Britain’s under 18 team will feature Luke Bambridge, Liam Broady, Joshua Ward-Hibbert, Peter Ashley and Kyle Edmund. The LTA Junior Challenge Trophy will give you the chance to see the next generation of tennis stars up close amid a backdrop of world class tennis.
“We can’t wait to get out on court,” said Bambridge, who is based at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. “There’s a good vibe in the team and we just want to go out there and do our best to beat the American team.”
Playing alongside the boys’ event will be defending champion and fourth seed Marion Bartoli and Czech seventh seed Lucie Safarova on Centre Court fighting for a place in the semi-finals. Later, Philip Kohlschreiber and the 2011 titleholder Andreas Seppi will battle it out for a place in the last four, while sixth seed Andy Roddick faces Italian Fabio Fognini.
Fifth seed Angelique Kerber plays Ekaterina Makarova.
Brits Laura Robson & Heather Watson take on top seeds Liezel Huber & Lisa Raymond.
