Sabine Lisicki is the AEGON Classic 2011 women's champion after she beat Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-2 in Monday's final.
The unseeded German was in impressive form in the final that was delayed until Monday as she blasted past the Slovakian No.4 seed in an hour and 15 minutes.
"I won the title and it’s just amazing," said a delighted Lisicki after her title victory.
"Even though it was the final, I just wanted to take it as a normal match and to not get too nervous. I do care a lot and I just wanted to go out there and have fun and it was very nice to see all the people coming out today."
After a frustrating day of waiting on Sunday both players agreed they would prefer to play it on the grass, rather than an indoor court, and waited for the sunnier climes of Monday at Edgbaston Priory Club.
It was Lisicki who came out the stronger breaking Hantuchova early on in the set and racing into a 4-1 lead. One break proved enough as the set continued to go with serve until Lisicki had wrapped it up 6-3.
The second set continued along the same lines with the German serving well and forcing errors from Hantuchova through her aggressive hitting.
Two more breaks followed and the German held her nerve to close out the victory and her first WTA title since 2009.
"I love the grass and it’s just such a great feeling to be back on it after missing last year," she continued. "After the injury it was so so tough to get back on the courts. I am so so happy that all the work in the last few months, year, has been paying off. It’s just such an amazing feeling."
Lisicki had found out on Sunday that she had been granted a main draw Wimbledon wild card so she will now take a few days off safe in the knowledge she does not need to worry about Wimbledon qualifying.
