Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham: 9th - 16th June 2013
Edgbaston Priory Club
Edgbaston Priory Club is firmly established as one of the country's most prestigious racquet and leisure clubs. It is a members club with over 3,000 members who regularly enjoy playing racquet sport, keeping fit and socialising.
The origins of Edgbaston Priory Club date back around 130 years. The Club as we know it today was formed in December 1964 as a result of a merger between two very long established clubs; Edgbaston Lawn Tennis Club, founded in 1878 and Priory Lawn Tennis Club, founded in 1875. This merger came about when, in May 1963, a disastrous fire completely destroyed Priory's Clubhouse - hence the Club's logo which is a Phoenix rising from the ashes.
Edgbaston Priory Club is a very different place today than it was in the 1880’s when it moved to its current location. Set in 12 acres of beautiful grounds the private members club now boasts 29 tennis courts, 10 squash courts, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, outside spa, Technogym equipped fitness facilities and a licensed bar and restaurant.
The Club is set in a conservation area less than a mile from the centre of Birmingham, and it is so peaceful that it is easy to forget just how close the city is. The Club’s grounds are carefully maintained to preserve the environment and the view, which generations of members have enjoyed so much. The setting is one reason why the Club is one of the largest and most popular racquet and leisure clubs in the country. On a more practical note, there is also ample parking set amongst a tree lined driveway.
