Andy Murray has defeated Richard Gasquet to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris, France.
The British No.1 recovered from a slow start to see off the French 17th seed 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 on a gloomy Philippe Chatrier court on Monday.
In the last eight Murray, the fourth seed, will meet world No.6 David Ferrer who has won through to the quarter-finals without dropping a set, without losing more than four games in any of the 12 sets he has won.
In the boys' singles event Kyle Edmund and third seed Liam Broady both recorded victories on Monday, although Luke Bambridge went down to world No.1 Luke Saville.
Novak Djokovic survived four match points to come through a thrilling quarter final against French No.1 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Court Philippe Chatrier. The World No.1 raced into an early 6-1, 4-2 lead but saw the fifth seed fight back and lead two sets to one and was four times a point from victory in the fourth set. Djokovic clung on and after edging the fourth set the Serb dominated the final set to seal a memorable 6-1, 5-7, 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-1 win.
Roger Federer sealed his semi-final berth in Paris after recovering from two sets to love down against Juan Martin Del Potro. The powerful Argentinean was in superb form as he built a considerable lead but was then affected by a left knee injury and Federer duly raised his level and completed a 3-6, 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-0, 6-3 victory after three hours and 14 minutes.
Sara Errani achieved her first top 10 victory at the 29th attempt as she defeated 10th seed Angelique Kerber 6-3, 7-6(2) and book her place in a first Grand Slam semi-final. The Italian will face-off against Sam Stosur in the last four as the US Open Champion saw off Dominika Cibulkova 6-4, 6-1.
