In a thrilling semi-final former Champion Roger Federer defeated World No.2 Novak Djokovic 7-6(5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5) after three hours and forty minutes of entralling tennis on Court Philippe Chatrier. With the win Federer snaps the Serbian's amazing 43 match winning streak and denied him the World No.1 ranking, but Djokovic could still take the top spot in next week's rankings if Federer can win the title on Sunday. After an exchange of early breaks; Federer saved two set points at 4-5 in the opener and claimed the tie-break at his first opportunity when Djokovic netted a forehand. The former World No.1 built a 4-1 lead in the second set and eventually took it 6-3. The second seed responded with an early break of the Federer serve in set three and Djokovic maintained the lead to take the match to a fourth set. It was the Serb who struck first breaking the third seeded Swiss in an epic ninth game to allow him to serve to make the match into a decider. Federer broke straight back with some superbly struck forehands and moved into a 6-3 lead with three match points in the subsequent tie-break. Djokovic saved the first two before an 18th Federer ace gave the World No.3 a place in his fifth Roland Garros final.
Rafael Nadal broke British hearts as the world No.1 defeated Andy Murray 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in the first semi-final.
