Li Na created history for China as the 29 year-old defeated defending champion Francesca Schiavone 6-4,7-6(0) to win the French Open title and become the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam singles title.
The Chinese sixth seed broke once to take the first set and led 4-2 in the second set. Schiavone fought back and was two points away from taking the match into a decider at 5-4 and 6-5.
Li held on and then swept through the tie-break 7-0 sealing a historic victory after an hour and 48 minutes when the Italian hit a backhand over the baseline.
Daniel Nestor and Max Mirnyi claimed their first Grand Slam title together with a 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-4 victory over Juan Sebastian Cabal and Eduardo Schwank.
In a hard fought encounter the second seeded Canadian/Belarusian team broke the unseeded South Americans in the final game of the match to win in two hours and 17 minutes.
The junior doubles titles were decided on Day 14 with victory in the Girl's final going to second seeds Irina Khromacheva and Maryna Zanevska. The Russian/Ukranian team defeated unseeded Victoria Kan and Demi Schuurs 6-4, 7-5 in the final.
The Boy's doubles crown went to the Spanish fourth seeds Andres Artunedo and Roberto Carballes Baena who outfought Americans Mitchell Krueger and Shane Vinsant 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-5 after an hour and 41 minutes.
